IPRO 353

SAE Formula Electric Race Car

Instructor: Dr. Mahesh Krishnamurthy

Course Purpose: The goals of this multidisciplinary IPRO team are to plan, design and attract sponsorships for an open-wheeled electric racecar for competition in the Formula SAE (FSAE) Electric, and Formula Hybrid Collegiate Design Competitions. All vehicle design, design paperwork, presentation scripts, promotional material, website development, and major sponsorships are to be completed by the end of the fall 2013 semester so that the car can be built and thoroughly tested during spring 2014 semester.
In order to achieve its objectives, the IPRO team will design all components for an FSAE car to be built & raced following spring semester. This includes the following sub-systems: chassis, low-voltage electrical systems, high-voltage electrical systems, suspension, aerodynamic package and drive system. In addition, the team will communicate and follow up with new and previous sponsors for support and donations, create a cost analysis for the parts and labor as if it was to be built as a production car, design a fully functional race car that meets all of the regulations, organize the team to keep them on schedule, test parts to optimize it and to prove its safety, and collect and organize parts and documents for the competition.
